You must have your skills assessed and certified by the Australian Computer Society before you can apply for a work visa. All applicants for other than employer sponsored visas must pass a points test which is included in the following booklet: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books6.htm Once you have a positive skills assessment and an acceptable IELTS score,(and state government or employer sponsorship if desired/needed), you can then apply for your visa. At some stage during the visa process, you must also meet health and character requirements.
