How do duty taxes work in Australia

How do duty taxes work in Australia?
What are the allowances? Can you ship gifts back to the USA prior to departure? How does the departure tax work? What's the best way to handle getting gifts/souvenirs from Australia to the USA? Should they be shipped ahead of time, or checked on board your homebound flight?

ask income tax department.
2 :
you really need to be more specific.it's no hassle to post items to the us,just do it.if you want to take it with you when you fly out you have restrictions on taking into the us more that a litre [or so] of alchohol duty free. if you want to take in more do it. declare it and pay the duty. why bother tho it's cheap to buy in us anyway. be aware tho with the weight of your bag.anything over your allowance and it costs heaps.alternately stuff it in a wooden crate and ship 3 months ahead.
3 :
By purchasing gifts etc at all the leading dept stores they will arrange shipment for u at yr expense. Air frieght is very expensive. Larger goods purchased from a respectable trader can be simlarly arranged. When purchasing prove u r a visitor, show passport etc. then u can claim GST {service tax} avoidance

You Working Holiday visa has no restrictions on the type of work you can do and as long as you don't work for any given employer for longer than 6 months, you are free to work wherever and at whatever you wish. In Western Australia however, you must be registered to work as a hairdresser, so that will be a barrier to working over there for a short period of time. For information, see: http://www.hrb.org.au/content.php?page=28 I've been seeing heaps of signs at salons here in Brisbane saying that they're currently hiring, so it seems that the employment prospects are fairly bright and I expect that would be the case in our other cities too. I'm not sure how prepared employers would be to hire for only 4 months, but if they need staff and you're good at your work, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Not unless it's been chipped/modded. They're a different region

No, USA is a NTSC U/C region, while Australia is PAL.

No, because there is 5 regions, and games and dvds only work in those specific regions where they came from. So america is level 1, so anything that has "1" or "all" on it would work but, america and australia are not the same region.

How possible is it for an American to work in Australia for a for few months or longer? What kinds of jobs

How possible is it for an American to work in Australia for a for few months or longer? What kinds of jobs?
I'm an American in my 20s, and I'd like to work in Australia for a few months, a year, or longer. Whatever time period is possible, I guess. I have a college degree, but I'm open to doing any sort of work. So how possible is this, considering the government regulation, visa restrictions, etc? And what kinds of jobs might be out there for a foreigner to do? Thanks for any information!

the only way is a 12 month work and holiday visa, an american can only ever get this visa once you must apply before your 30 http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/visa-options.htm
2 :
You can apply--before the age of 30, a holiday/work visa. Once this visa has expired, you must leave--most people will go to New Zealand and do the same thing. Good luck to you--a lot of Australian's have no jobs--things are rough there also--maybe work around town under the table and stay at a hostel.
3 :
You're under 31 and you have a college degree, so you're eligible for a 12 month Work and Holiday visa. That will allow you to work anywhere, at any type of work with the only restriction being that you can only work for each employer for a maximum of 6 months. W&HVs are fast and easy to get and everyone eligible who applies will get one - there is no quota. You can only ever get 1 W&HV in a lifetime. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/462/usa/ When you arrive, you may be expected to prove that you have access to around AUD$5000 (bank account, credit card, traveller's cheques etc) and either a return ticket or additional funds to buy one. During your W&HV, you'll be able to find casual work in bars and restaurants or call centres; there's always fruit picking work available somewhere throughout the country or depending on your skills, you may be able to find work in your usual field though the 6 month per employer restriction may make that difficult. If you want to stay and work for longer than 12 months, the only visa you will be eligible to apply for from within Australia is a subclass 457 temporary employer sponsored visa. For that, you must have qualifications and experience in an occupation on our Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and you must be able to find an employer who is eligible and willing to jump through the considerable hoops required to sponsor you in that occupation. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf The current SOL. A new, much shorter SOL will be released in April to take effect from 1 July. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/ Subclass 457 visa.

I have a PlayStation 3 console that was bought in Australia, but I'm going to study in the US so I want to know whether it would work in US. If it can't, what do I have to do to make it work? Your most likely bet would be in a Japanese restaurant. Probably something on the bottom end of the scale such as clearing tables or dishwashing, but you might get into the food preparation side if you are lucky (and any good at it)
2 :
Most small motels and inns in the country regularly accept backpackers as temporary workers. Larger hotels are now also following the trend and getting travelers for temporary work. Remember to check the message boards in the lobby of the place to see what jobs are being offered to travelers like you. And if you are lucky enough, you can actually have everything arranged so that, instead of being paid, you actually work for your accommodations.

Can I get a work visa for a cosmetologist to work in Australia

Can I get a work visa for a cosmetologist to work in Australia?
I'm thinking of moving from NC to Australia for 6-12 months. I'm a licensed cosmetologist in NC only for 1 year and was wondering what I would have to do to work as a hair stylist in Australia for my stay. I may want to live their permanently in the future if I like it. Does anyone know how I would go about doing that? Thanks!

Your profession has now been removed from the list of migration professions, so unless you are eligible for a 1 year working holiday visa, you will not be able to work in Australia. At the end of this visa, you will have to return home as a perm visa is no longer possible for your profession.
2 :
If you're aged between 18 and 30 and are a high school graduate, you will be eligible for a 12 month Work and Holiday visa. You can do any kind of work but can only work for each employer for up to 6 months. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/462/usa/ Work and Holiday visa for US citizens. If you're a good hair stylist, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding temporary work in any state except Western Australia - you must be registered there to work as a hairdresser. If you want to stay in Australia, hairdressing is still eligible for employer sponsored visas so if you can find an employer who is willing to sponsor you for a temporary work visa, that will be your route to an eventual permanent employer sponsored visa. You would have to start on a subclass 457 temporary visa because your W&HV isn't an eligible visa to lead directly to permanent employer sponsorship. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/visa-options.htm

How difficult is it to work in Australia

How difficult is it to work in Australia?
I currently have dual citizenship with Canada and the UK, I'm attending college in Canada. My dream is to live in Australia. How difficult would it be for me to obtain a work visa? How difficult is it to find work there? How long would it take to eventually immigrate?
Other - Australia - 3 Answers

1 :
You could get a Working holiday visa which allows you to stay and work for a year - but to migrate it is extremely hard. The government makes a list of the areas of need (Where there are not enough Australians working in) every couple of months - these careers are the ones you can migrate with but you have to have the qualifications and experience. At the same time the government puts in place encouragement programs to get more Australians trained in that area - when they graduate that career is then removed from the list. So realistically - if you see a career on the list that you are interested in but not trained in - by the same you get qualified and have the 2 years experience needed it will no longer be on the list. Remember migration is in place to help the COUNTRY not the wants and desires for other countries citizens. Harsh but that is life.
2 :
Hello. It is ok here. There is work if you want to get out and look. Some people find work hard but also you have to try and get work. I dont know anyone who has had a problem with getting work who want it. We went through a bad time before Christmas like everywhere but it is picking up really well. Hope this helps. :)
3 :
To immigrate into Australia you will need formal recognised qualifications plus at least two years verifiable experience in a skill that Australia wants and needs at the time. This is the SOL - Skilled Occupations List. This in itself is no guarantee of acceptance. The entire migration process would normally take between 18 and 30 months. Your Canadian & UK citizenships would have no bearing on the matter. As a college graduate you would not have the experience needed to fulfill that part of the requirements. What you would probably be best off doing is getting a "young persons working holiday" visa. These are valid for 12 months (extendable in certain circumstances) and allow "young persons" between the ages of 18 & 30 to come to Australia for an extended holiday and finance it whilst over here by short-term (6 month max any one employer) working. This gives you the chance to see if real living & working in Australia bears any resemblance to the TV shows that you have been watching, prior to embarking on the full-scale migration process. For all of the answers to all of your questions regarding immigration, visas, skill & assessments, Australia in general etc, follow this link to the very informative government site: http://www.immi.gov.au

When my permanent residency for Australia runs out could I enter the country on a tourist visa and live/work

When my permanent residency for Australia runs out could I enter the country on a tourist visa and live/work?
it runs out march 2010. I want to know if that means i wont be able to live/ work in Australia after that. I have spent 18 months living/working in Australia during my 5 year working visa.
Other - Australia - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You NEED to get back before it runs out, otherwise, you may need to apply again. A tourist visa will NOT allow you to work here.
2 :
If you have a permanent residency visa you should not need to worry about it. Permanent residency means you can live and work in Australia for the rest of your life. If you only have a temporary work visa then you need to leave before your visa expires and re-apply for another work visa. You are not allowed to work on a tourist visa and only allowed to be in Australia on a tourist visa for 3 months. If you stay longer than that and get caught on an expired visa they will deport you and you cannot enter for 5 years. If you are married to an Australian citizen then you can apply for a permanent residency visa through your spouse. If you have a particular type of job Australia is in need of workers for (like doctors) then you can apply for a permanent residency visa too. Australia has a huge shortage of skilled workers in certain fields. You can find out what these are if you go on-line and look it up. Good luck.
3 :
I dont get it??? permanent residency means you are a permanent resident...my husband just got his!!! I am not quite sure what the problem is??
4 :
If you have permanent residency and you're in Australia, it won't run out, so you must have something other than that. Perhaps you mean that you had permanent residency and then left Australia on a Resident Return Visa which expires in March 2010. If you have a BF111 visa label in your subclass 155 visa, it will remain in force indefinitely provided you return to Australia within 3 years of each departure. If you do not have a BF111 label, you must visit a DIAC office to obtain one, but you may have already left it too late to do so. You should contact the embassy or consulate in your current country of residence as soon as possible. If you have left Australia and stayed away too long, you evidently did not sufficiently value your Australian Permanent Residency and it will lapse. You will then need to start from scratch to obtain it again. If your Authority to Return or Return Endorsement expires, you will not be able to re-enter Australia and work until you are granted a work visa of some kind. Tourist visas are for non-working tourists - no one is allowed to work on a tourist visa, regardless of their former status. If you work whilst on a tourist visa, you and your employer will probably be charged with immigration offences; you will probably be deported and you will probably be excluded from obtaining any other Australian visa for 3 years or more.
5 :
yeah you can get one my boyfriend did after his expired he got it after 7 months he was deported
6 :
you can not live or work in australia on a tourist visa it for tourists only
7 :
why don't you apply for a permanent visa?? you can't work if you're visa is a tourist visa

Almost all chargers sold today will feature a power supply that can take any voltage in the world. If not then you can probably find something that will work in oz on ebay
2 :
You'll probably be better off buying a camera where you are. Prices in Japan could be higher. Plus there maybe a problem with the warranty once you take it out of the country. Not to mention the added cost of buying a voltage converter.
3 :
You will probably need an adapter but usually the cameras come with such things incorporated... I bought a Nikon from US and I am using it in Europe with no problem. I just changed the power adapter and I am charging my camera battery simple. You should ask the camera salesman if the camera you want to buy has an adapter incorporated and if not how much cost one and where can you find it. Good luck

yeh, i think it should! but you better call the seller and ask first!
2 :
You may need to call your power company, google the specs on the pedal and google to buy an adapter. If it operates on battery power (probably 9 volt), it will not matter. In 2000, Australia converted to 230 V as the nominal standard with a tolerance of +10% -6%, this superseding the old 240 V standard, AS2926-1987. In Japan, the electrical power supply to households is at 100 V. Eastern and northern parts of HonshÃ…« (including Tokyo) and HokkaidÃ… have a frequency of 50 Hz, whereas western HonshÃ…« (including Nagoya, Osaka, and Hiroshima), Shikoku, KyÃ…«shÃ…« and Okinawa operate at 60 Hz. To accommodate the difference, frequency-sensitive appliances marketed in Japan can often be switched between the two frequencies. In general, most of the world uses the 230V standard. This also means that standard 230V equipment can be used in most parts of the world, with only a minor change in the equipment's electrical plug for a specific country.

What country are you from? If you're entering on a Working Holiday visa (subclass 417), and work for a total of 3 months doing seasonal work for a primary producer, you can get a second 12 month working holiday visa, but it's not possible to get extensions beyond that. If you're not from a qualifying country or if you want to stay permanently, as a new high school graduate, you would not have sufficient skills and qualifications to qualify for a work visa under our current immigration laws. You would need to either do your further studies here and gain Australian qualifications, or return to your own country, get qualifications and some experience and then apply in a few years. For info. on the second WH visa go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/index.htm For all other immigration information, see:http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm Take particular notice of the visa types, required occupations and the points test requirements.
2 :
No, to immigrate to Australia you must be a skilled worker in an occupation Australia needs, and you need to apply from your home country, you must also pass a points test list of occupations http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf points test http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-applicant.htm visa http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/visa-options-outside.htm
3 :
What field of work are you experience in?.
4 :
yep check these guys out, they take care of all aussie visas
5 :
the answers above regarding 417 visa etc are all good and correct. There is however also available a 457 class visa, IF (and its a big if) you have particular skills and an Australian employer is prepared to sponsor you. These visas allow up to 4 years stay (I think). However you say this is a gap year thing, so that suggests that you might need or want to get a bit more experience under your belt before considering seeking such sponsorship as simply having completed school education isn't likely to be terribly convincing as a "skill" or qualification. Nonetheless, come and spend your year here and see in fact whether you like it? Then, maybe you can examine options for the future. Good luck.

Apply at the nearest Australian embassy (just type in the name of your country and the words "Australian embassy" in the search engines). Or you can visit http:www.immi.gov.au for details on the kinds of work visas available. Also visit http://www.workpermit.com/ . They're a good site with lots of resources. If I get a work visa for australia can I get a one way airplane ticket there or does it have to be round trip?

work visa's are very hard to get, if you qualify you could get a 12 month working holiday visa this would require a return ticket
2 :
If you're asking about requirements when coming on a working holiday visa, you don't need a return ticket, but you must show that you have funds to buy one in addition to the equivalent of AUD$5000 for living and other expenses. If you don't have both, you may be rejected at the border. If you're asking about some other kind of work visa, there is no requirement for a return ticket or funds to buy one, though on a 457, your employer is required to have ensured that you have the funds to get back to your home country if required.

Apply for a visa. Go to Australian websites for immigration info.
3 :
Australia has unique rules governing foreigners working there. If you have a trade license or certification, you increase the possibility of the Australian Gov't granting you a work visa (which will also allow you to legally reside there). However, please try to not confuse legally residing somewhere, and citizenship, as these are two different entities. Several firms who legitimately hire foreigners, and upon passing the interview and hiring process, will assist you in obtaining the proper work visas and associated documents to legally work in other countries. But in this case, you will need to research the Australian Gov't websites: www.australia.com www.eta.immi.gov.au Good Luck.

There is no way to save on visa charges or on meeting the English language, health and character requirements, but you can keep costs to the absolute minimum by doing everything yourself through our immigration website. You do not need to use a migration agent, so you can save by not paying their fees. Take care though that you fill out every form correctly and that you give them exactly what they ask for. If you're unsure about anything, you can try asking for specific advice on here, or you can email DIAC or speak to the Australian Embassy in Manila. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm http://www.dfat.gov.au/missions/countries/ph.html

You can work unlinited hours during official course breaks (vacations). You cannot do any work until your course begins. Do any skilled workers want to work in Australia

Do any skilled workers want to work in Australia?
I work assisting small businesses in Australia. Because of the booming economy, the biggest problem they face is finding skilled workers. From what I understand, the economy in the US is heading downhill, especially in construction. An International recruitment and immigration company I work with is considering opening a US office. It would offer free flights and relocation assistance, free immigration service to qualified employees, and a guaranteed well-paid job. Where would be the best location? We are considering either Southern California or Florida. Are these good locations? Thanks for your help. Any positive suggestions will be well much appreciated.

Why are international students even allowed to work in Australia

Why are international students even allowed to work in Australia?
If international students are so keen to study in Australia, then they should be studying full time and not working. If they need experience, then they can do volunteer work. Paid work should be accessible by local students like me and other Australian citizens who pay taxes and serve the country. If international students think they are poor, then they should just go back to their country and get a job there. They come to our county and take away our jobs, and the government suffers nothing. It is the local students who suffer the most, because the unemployment rate is high in Australia and many local residents are getting up at 5am in the morning to earn $10 an hour.

It's no better in America. Suck it up.
2 :
They have to pay for food, water and electricity somehow.
3 :
Thanks for answering my question, I plan to pay taxes and permanently live in Australia, in my case I would need a job to get a home and pay my bills so maybe thats why
4 :
Well it also works both ways there are reciprocal agreements. Australian uni students who wish to undertake an exchange or study abroad are also allowed to work 20 hours to help pay for daily living expenses in other countries including the U.S where the unemployment happens to be even higher. The fact is international students actually provide a large amount of revenue for university's in order to provide their services to students. Yes the government does provide significant funding as well but intl students is like the icing on the cake in regards to funding. It is more harder for international students to find employment than our domestic students as they are only here for a short period of time. Think about often have you had someone at the checkout at Woolworth's serve you that was from Europe or America
5 :
International students on student visas have to study full time. They often work in addition to their full time studies. Contrary to your belief, they are not taking jobs away from Australians. Generally, international students work jobs in restaurants, cafes, bars etc because this fits in best with their studies. There is no shortage of these jobs whether you are an Australian or from overseas, even in the current "financial crisis", it only took me a week to find a job in a cafe when I decided to start looking for work. Also, the unemployment rate is not really high. Australian citizens receive youth allowance or Austudy from the government when they study full time. This amount is small, but it always covered my living expenses. And unlike International students, Australian university students defer their university fees on the HECS system, which makes the cost of education affordable to all. International students do not receive youth allowance and have to pay university fees upfront. In addition to this, their fees are about twice the fee Australian students pay. Therefore they have to fund their studies themselves somehow, and actually a lot of out educational institutions rely heavily on international students because they are paying the institution higher fees and they are paying these fees upfront. Where are you getting you information from exactly? I hope that it is a credible, reliable source and not just "cos my friend told me this so it must be true", or even worse "I heard it on Today Tonight, so it must be true". Honestly, try and focus on a problem that exists.
6 :
An international student is probably contributing more to the economy by studying here (and paying full fees) than you are in paying taxes. From the sound of it, you probably don't earn much over the tax free threshold anyway.
7 :
International students pay extremely high fees that are a very important source of non-government funding for our universities. Without the fees of international students, there would be fewer university courses, facilities and staff or all Australians would have to pay higher taxes to make up the shortfall. If international students were not allowed to work at all, they simply wouldn't come here to study and our universities and overall economy would suffer. International students must study full time and are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week while their course is in session and unlimited hours during uni vacations. When they work, they pay taxes and spend the money they earn in the community so that everyone benefits. No student I know (local or international) has ever had any trouble finding work and neither do the working holiday makers who come here every year - there's plenty of casual work around for people who are willing to work and don't believe that the world owes them a living. If you haven't been able to find a decent job, blame yourself; not other people.
8 :
I agree with you in part. The funding provided by international students is minimal in the scheme of things. If you were to remove the now obligatory "International Student" support department - and the costs associated with this (staff etc) that would equal about 95% of the fee income brought in by the international students. The other % is given to union services. (USyd is my basis to this statement). So that belief that their fees are important to the university is really an oxymoron. The vast majority of international students are going to the types of "colleges" no Australian would even know about let alone consider going to - and their income is almost entirely from those international students. If they all had to close - I doubt whether any Australian student would care (or any Australian). IMHO - universities in Australia should reduce their international intake and reduce their local intake, get rid of the highly specialized degrees which sound good and interesting but have no job value. Only the best of the best high school students should go to university.
9 :
The international student contributes to the economy. They also create jobs in the education area, in regards to teachers etc. They may take one job for themselves, to support their studies. But in return they create several employment opportunites for Australians. Such as the person who educates them, the person who serves them at the local supermarket, the person who sells them a train/bis ticket. Everyday living, just by them being here , creates jobs. If that international market was not here, there in fact would be LESS jobs for us.
10 :
Totally agree mate there taking over the country
11 :
Stop complaining. They come to Australia and they find a way to sustain themselves. I applaud them rather than sit around and have a little cry about how they take ''our'' jobs. Why don't you complain about something legitimate? For instance, the people who are unemployed because they're too lazy to find themselves a job and live off of our money when they get on the dole for months or years. We pay for them and they don't do anything to deserve it. A couple of months maybe? Sure. Anymore than 3 is just get ridiculous though. @raff: You're an idiot. ''Taking over''? Please. Grow up.

Yes, all permanent immigrants from non-English speaking countries must meet English language requirements by obtaining the IELTS score required for the visa for which they are applying. For independent visas, that level is a minimum score of 6 in each component. If he is applying for a state sponsored visa, or if he needs additional points for the points test, he may require a higher score. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-english.htm English requirements for a subclass 175 visa.

Can a DVD bought from Australia work in an American DVD player

Can a DVD bought from Australia work in an American DVD player?
I want to buy the season DVD of "We Can Be Heroes" which is a sitcom in Australia (it is only available in Australia), but i do not know if the DVD will work in an American DVD player. My friend says it should work on any computer...? Ideas/suggsestions.
Other - Electronics - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Every commercial DVD and DVD player are coded with one or more 'regions'. Australian DVDs are typically coded with region 4 (same as Mexico). North American DVD players are coded with region 1. In general, if the region code on the disc does not match the region code on the player, it will not allow you to play the disc. However, some DVD players have a special code that allows you to change the built-in region code, and if you're lucky there may also be an 'unlock' code that makes your player region-free (i.e. plays discs from any region). Some DVD players come region-free out of the box, but this is rare. Some players (especially computer DVD drives) will restrict the number of times you can switch the region code (e.g. 4 or 5 times), after that, the drive will be permanently locked to the last setting. Note that some DVDs may be multi-region encoded. For example, many DVDs in Mexico are encoded with both region 1 and region 4 because many people import DVD players from the United States that are region 1. If for example you go to a Mexican Blockbuster Video, every DVD will have a sticker in the corner saying whether it is region 4 or dual region 1/4. Likewise, some Australian discs may be encoded with both region 1 and 4, but this is not as likely. Edit: I forgot to mention that Australian DVDs are formatted with PAL video whereas North American DVDs are formatted with NTSC video. Many North American players can play PAL discs, but not all can, so this is also something to think about.

I'm not sure actually. When you buy it, or if you've already got it, check if it says PAL or NTSC (US) or NTSC (JAP). If it says PAL you're good to go. If it says NTSC.. Sorry. You could make your PS2 region free but you need to mod it and stuff like that - too much of a hassle imo.

You must have your skills assessed and certified by the Australian Computer Society before you can apply for a work visa. If your IT specialty (as assessed by the ACS) is not on the Migrant Occupations In Demand List (MODL) AND the Critical Skills List (CSL), you will not get a visa during the current economic climate unless you have employer or state government sponsorship. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupations/occupations-in-demand.htm (the MODL) http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/critical-skills-list.pdf (the CSL) http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/a-z.htm#c (Skills recognition) You must pass IELTS with at least a score of 6 across all bands and perhaps more if the ACS or your sponsor require a higher score for your IT field. All applicants for other than employer sponsored visas must pass a points test which is included in the following booklet: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books6.htm Once you have a positive skills assessment and an acceptable IELTS score,(and state government or employer sponsorship if desired/needed), you can then apply for your visa. At some stage during the visa process, you must also meet health and character requirements.

Why is Singapore not part of the Australia work holiday visa scheme when they are part of ours? Dampening~?
I was searching through the list of countries eligible for a work holiday visa in Australia and was unhappily hit with the fact that Singapore is not part of the countries allowed. I did a check on the Singapore MOM side and found out that we allow the ozzies to work and holiday here but not us? That's kind of biased in my opinion, since other asian countries such as Taiwan and HKSAR get that privillege. Anyone knows why?

I don't think anyone outside the two governments actually knows the answer to your question, but I do know that there are always extensive negotiations between countries regarding special visas and that agreements must be signed before the visas are made available. Perhaps Singapore has less stringent requirements than Australia related to the relative probability of visa overstayers and the actions to be taken when/if this occurs.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that will work. Just use your adapter and you're ready to straighten! It should heat up properly as well.
